In my initial years of visiting Taipei, and when I still frequented Ximending 西门町 for shopping and dining, the district was a preferred location of stay. Via Ximending 丰居西門町 was 1 of my 2 favourites - the other being amba Ximending 西门町意舍.

Via Ximending 丰居西門町, alike amba Ximending 西门町意舍, is often sold out during peak travel season. And why not, given its many plus points?
Location | The hotel is a mere 5-minute walk from Ximen MRT Station exit 6 (the landmark and meeting point of Ximending), just off the busiest shopping and food street. My favourite food carts, Starbucks and 7-11 (for collecting online shopping) are a few steps away.
Comfy room for solo travellers | There are several room types, each a comfy size for my solo travels.

Amenities | More a no-frills type of accommodation, the lodging still comes equipped with a 24hr snack bar (there is no breakfast provided but you can still pretty much eat your fill here) and laundry room. Some rooms come with a bath tub and my last stay even offered a back massager inroom, which I thought was a nice touch for travellers.
Competitive pricing | I personally think this is the reason why this hotel is often sold out... so reserving your desired room takes quick hands.

▲ Via Ximending 丰居西門町 is approximately 5-minute walk away, though be prepared to be distracted enroute.

▲ Possibly part of the most recognizable street at Ximending. Turning right into the alley at Starbucks and 7-11 brings you to Via Ximending 丰居西門町.

▼ The hotel signage beckons on your left as you walk into the alley lined with shops. And a hidden lift lobby (two small lifts) brings you up to 2F where the check-in reception is.

▼ See past the (almost dodgy-looking?) ground floor lift lobby and to the left once the elevator opens at 2F, the small reception area is an entirely different ambience (though usually packed during check-in hours).
(Photos are taken over a few visits, so pardon the reception area looking different.)

Besides the small check-in reception, the lodging has optimized the 2F space by fitting in a 24hr snack bar, sitting area and information area.

For a snack bar, the selection here is pretty decent (I find myself craving for certain snacks back home).

To the right when the elevator opens at 2F, there is a cluster of guest rooms, separated by a stairwell. If you are staying on this floor and concerned about noise level, I must say it was minimal as the reception is a distance away, and there is barely any activity at night.

I had selected Via Ximending 丰居西門町's Standard or Deluxe Double Room 双人房 (the latter with Japanese style tub) for these 3 solo stays, as the room size was just nice (not too big, and without odd/hidden corners), and room rates rather reasonable to bear alone. Also worth mentioning, the hotel uses Sealy Posturepedic mattresses (oh my, the quality of sleep during vacays!). On my own, I am not inclined towards hotel breakfast, so the 24hr snack bar was more than sufficient for me. (Not to mention, it is impossible to go hungry at Ximending.)
