To say that Yorimichi Patisserie 顺道菓子店 is an unexpected find in this little town, is hardly an exaggeration. The Japanese sweets cafe is a gem among the many local eateries and street food scattered through my Qingshui day trip 清水一日游, and already an easy find on blogs when I was planning my route.
Situated at the same street as Qingshui Elementary School Dormitory Cluster 清水公学校日式宿舍群, the cafe was a popular retreat from the day's persistent rain, judging by how packed it was and disappointed walk-ins being turned away. Glad the rain made me swap my order of visit with the mentioned dorm cluster, and possibly easier for me to land a seat when travelling solo, I spent a leisurely hour over cake and coffee, watching the rain subside.
⇩ An unassuming small shopfront facing some residences, standing out in white along a quiet street.
The ambience was particularly cosy that rainy afternoon, in a modest-sized shop with soft lighting, seating not more than 30pax.
I quickly decided on a window seat to watch the rain.
A delectable display of the day's desserts, including signature cream puffs in interesting flavours such as Thai milk tea, sesame milk, lychee raspberry... or if you prefer the more classic ones like vanilla custard, chocolate and (Shizuoka) matcha. Spoilt for choice, I deliberated long enough on my final decision from a handful of shortlisted.

There was also a small selection of savoury items, which I passed, having already satisfied my tummy with local street food before this.
In addition, there is a shaved ice - served whole year round - and beverage menu.
Settled for a hot latte 热拿铁 NTD110 and earl grey milk roll 伯爵牛奶糖捲 NTD110. Coffee was robust (much needed comfort in that weather and sleepy afternoon booster), the cake roll spongy and moist.
While the wet weather didn't induce any craving for shaved ice, I couldn't walk away without their signature cream puffs, taking away Thai milk tea 泰奶 (NTD60) and Shizuoka matcha 静冈抹茶 (NTD60) in my own container. (Would have wanted sesame milk 芝麻鲜奶 too if my container could hold 3.) The 2 flavours were light, in crumbly pastry shells - made a good supper snack for me that night.
Will be hoping to try other flavours when I revisit!
