Huashan 1914 Creative Park 华山1914文化创意产业园区, or Huashan 华山 in short, must be The Other cultural park that pulls its own weight against Songshan Cultural & Creative Park 松山文创园区 (Songyan 松烟 in short).  If your schedule permits, both parks are highly recommended as they are vastly different.

Huashan 华山 is easily accessible via a 5-minute walk from exit 1 of Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT 忠孝新生站. (By comparison, due to ongoing (and controversial) construction of Taipei Dome, the walk to Songyan 松烟 from Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall MRT 国父纪念馆站 has been extended round the circumference of the site.) Walk straight ahead at ground level, see the school on your right, cross two junctions, and you will see your destination.

The exhibitions were what first brought me to Huashan 华山 - Aranzi Aronzo (Mar 2015), Ghibli Studio (Aug 2016) and Lisa & Gaspard (Mar 2017). But exhibitions aside, Huashan 华山 has more to offer, making it a highly recommended destination.

Going back to a little about Huashan 华山's history, a wine factory constructed in 1914, it was among Taiwan’s largest wine producers throughout the 1920s. Giving way to the times and long abandoned, it was discovered by a theatre group by chance. Eventually, it was restored and turned into an arts centre, later rebuilt to what we see of the creative park today.

A narrative tunnel tells the story of the wine factory.

Not unlike other historical places converted into modern use, Huashan 华山 has carefully preserved certain sections of its original premises, or cleverly incorporated them into the current look. Walls, pillars, beams, roofs, ceilings, ... even trees and plants. They seem to be telling their own story to people who take time to stop and admire them, bringing your imagination back in time, to a forgotten past.

When you are willing to bring yourself back to the present moment, Huashan has enough retail and F&B to keep you occupied for a good afternoon.
