For a start, I have to clarify that this lovely breakfast & brunch place does not come with an English name - so "Single Eyelid Double Eyelid Breakfast Cafe" is really a literal translation of their chinese name 单眼皮双眼皮。早餐轻食.

Chanced upon this cafe when my gal pal and I stayed at Taipei Main Station and were looking for brunch places in our vicinity. This outlet here is their second, with the first at Wanhua District.

Split into seating on ground floor and a basement, the former is really just a few bar counter seats, for those who may not fancy walking up and down.

<Below> The sign here says that the bread here is freshly made, so that every bite you take makes you feel blissful.

Steep steps down to the basement, where a little haven beckons.

The shop unit is really not big, typical of many shops in similar cities, but they manage an amazing use of narrow and limited space here, creating a wonderfully casual and cosy ambience suitable for friends or couples. I came early on both visits, which explains the largely unoccupied seats. But soon after, many customers streamed in and filled up the place.

I love how mismatched furnitures are put together for a homely ambience, with little touches like dried flowers and ornaments.

Look! There's even a camping ground ~ but remember to remove your shoes if you want to sit here. (My gal pal and I quite overlooked the sign which told us to do so, until the server informed us politely. Eeks, sorry!)

Each table has a menu indicating its number. If you are seated at the basement, you'll need to head back up to the counter to place and pay for your order.

Top of pix - Set D / Toast + scrambled egg + ham & bacon + homemade yogurt + milk tea
Bottom of pix - Set C / 旦捲饼 (wrap, with egg, tomato, green... and choice of bacon or ham - I chose bacon) + homemade yogurt + topped up for Eyelid Signature coffee.

The portions were filling and satisfying. The homemade yogurt was unsweetened, and I like it slightly sour. Would have preferred the coffee to be stronger.

I often feel that it's a hit or miss with bagels. I've had hard ones which tasted very good (like those from Good Cho's 好丘). Admittedly the soft ones are kinder to my teeth and gums. The bagel at Eyelid was toasted and soft. The filling came really generous, and it would have been a challenge to finish it if not for how tasty it is. The surprising part of the bagel burger was, there was actually peanut butter in there, adding another dimension to the taste.

Remember to clear your table and leave your food trays in the little corner at the basement!
