Every visit to Tainan warrants checking out an accommodation new to me, even though there could be no way I'll conquer them all given how rapid new accommodations sprout in Taiwan. My Way House 民宿x展演 was one such destination, after diligently combing homestays and B&Bs in the vicinity of Zheng Xing Street 正兴街. Arriving one hot afternoon, I checked in for a three-night stay.
Quite aptly, "a house that speaks"...
I definitely felt a connection, especially out of my passion for old houses converted to new use.
The accommodation is a retail shop on the ground floor, which I had patronised before but failed to realise there were guest rooms. (Below, before the shop's operating hours.) The cashier counter within the shop doubles up as a guest check-in point. While I may not have seen the shop attendant cum housekeeper much, we kept in touch via LINE (as I had started communicating with them via this mode prior to the visit) and response was prompt. To be expected of many homestays and B&Bs, guests may not have the luxury of a stay-in housekeeper or front desk personnel, but do always check for emergency or non-operating hours contact and note security measures in place.
For room guests, there are private access points in place.
Guest rooms are divided into two sections, one of which is right above the retail shop, out of bounds to shoppers.
A bright spacious common area caters for room guests, before leading in to the handful of rooms. Before I forget, as the name of the accommodation suggests, there are also mini exhibitions and showcases by local artists and bazaars from time to time, at common areas and even some of the rooms. Even if you are not staying here, it's definitely worth visiting.
Coin laundry was available at the courtyard on 2F, though I did not utilise this service this time.
Back down to the retail shop at 1F, a walk deeper in leads to another cluster of guest rooms.
A concealed door, disguised as a chalkboard - leads to the back, out of bounds to non-guests.
Up the stairs (sorry, no elevator here) to my room at 2F.
Room W202 Childhood Games 跳格子 (or literally translated as 'hopscotch'). I had chosen this room for the tatami living area, where I ate, wrote my notes and even napped. Guess this was a large room for a solo traveller, possible for addition of beds should there be a need to become a Quadraple room. It became an extremely comfortable home for three nights, resulting in a reluctant departure to move off to my next accommodation Tainan Rootsinn 台南古根.

The bedroom takes the other half of the room, separated by the bathroom. In some cities, this bedroom could be the entire size of your hotel room. Spaciousness is something I appreciate, particularly as the world and living space become increasingly congested.
Despite being an old house, the guest rooms come with modern baths.
Touches and finishings that I love ~
At the time of visit, Taiwan was undergoing a phase of mandatory registration by B&Bs and homestays, to become lawful accommodations. This procedure has since been completed by My Way House 民宿x展演. I am already looking at other rooms I should check out should I stay here again.
