Industrial sugar trains and stone mills are displayed in the 4.3-hectare park, with vast green lawns, old fruit trees (plenty of longans!) and a green tunnel lined with Camphor trees (樟树). In 1999, the Red Brick Office, Wooden Official Residence, Wooden Guest House, and Red-Brick Dining Hall were declared county historical monuments, prominently preserved within the compound. The park makes a lovely venue for picnic-ing, or just lazing in the shade.

#4 Wooden Official Residence 厂长宿舍
Watched a couple trying their luck getting some longans off the tree.
A really lovely Japanese structure, of the many that Taiwan has successfully preserved country-wide, for appreciation by us modern generation. It is said that even Japanese visit Taiwan to check out these architectural and historical mementos.

#2 Wooden Guest House 招待所
A rather extensive exhibition on the history of Tainan's sugar factories, including this at Madou. I personally enjoy such exhibitions very much, sharing historical and cultural insights in a comprehensive format, much to the credit of curators.
The construction technique here is worth mentioning, involving a reduced number of support columns that ensured an airy interior.

Patrons are required to leave their shoes outside the teahouse, to protect the tatami flooring.
The teahouse, while extremely comfortable, offers a very limited menu consisting of basically two items - tea (choice of either burdock 牛蒡 or roasted (green) tea 煎茶) and a small chinese snack known as 荖 (lao3) made from yam flour and glutinous rice flour (traditionally, 麻荖 is coated with sesame and 米荖 with peanut coating). You can order the set for one (NT$100) or two persons (NT$200), and top up for more snacks (NT$50 for 5pcs).
I was happy to rest my legs over hot burdock tea, a beverage new to me though I enjoy eating the vegetable, and the little pastry with almond bits.
The teahouse does not admit non-patrons for sightseeing. So, besides a handful of customers seated at the balcony and speaking softly, it was just me within the inner hall, making a very conducive quiet afternoon.
