05 (5 of 5) - KW2 %26; Banana Pier.jpg

Mention Pier 2 Art Center 驳二艺术特区 and many people should be aware of or have visited this cultural park. A 100-year old warehouse cluster located right beside it - the Kaohsiung Port Warehouse No. 2 or KW2 栈贰库 and Banana Pier 香蕉码头 - may be lesser known and mentioned. Redeveloped and opened to the public only in 2018, this is the fourth warehouse zone, boosting the vibrancy of Pier 2 Art Center 驳二艺术特区 in entirety.

▼ There is a small park lined with old railway tracks, that you have to walk through to get to KW2 栈贰库 proper.

KW2 栈贰库's warehouse stretch in sight, a row of shops and eateries, facing the Kaohsiung Port on the other side.

Relative to Pier 2 Art Center 驳二艺术特区KW2 栈贰库 is of modest size, essentially forming a T-shaped zone with Banana Pier 香蕉码头

The two-storey warehouse now houses about fifty (big and small) tenants - see the current list here. I hadn't ventured in, as 1, I had dining and shopping prior to this and 2, was merely here to check out this "new" attraction enroute my next destination.

▼ One side of the warehouse cluster offers a great view of the port, with outdoor benches which may be more inviting in the evening than daytime. ALSO, there is a lovely white carousel by the port, which was cordoned off for maintenance/cleaning during my visit, thus not photographed. Will leave this and some scenic port-view dining for a next visit : )

Banana Pier 香蕉码头 houses more dining and shopping. Bananas used to be a key agricultural produce in the 60s, particularly in Kaohsiung's Cishan 旗山, with Kaohsiung Port as the main export point. Being included in the redevelopment plan of KW2 is a thoughtful nod to Kaohsiung's history.

Strolling off to my next destination, I would be back to experience KW2 & Banana Pier 栈贰库 & 香蕉码头 in finer detail.
